‘Ramil’ may still affect Northern Luzon – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Ramil (international name Lupit) is likely to make a landfall in the extreme portion of Northern Luzon, the government weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said today (Oct. 18).

Pagasa director Prisco Nilo said the typhoon could pose a threat to Cagayan on Wednesday (Oct. 21) evening or Thursday (Oct. 22) morning.

As of 11 a.m. today, typhoon Ramil has been spotted 1,060 kms east southeast of Aparri, Cagayan.

The typhoon, while over the sea, has gained strength from 120 kph to 175 kph.

Nilo said strong winds and torrential rains might be experienced over Northeastern and Central Luzon.

Another scenario is that the typhoon might inch its way to Taiwan, the Pagasa official said.
